Esmond: My name is Esmond. What's your name?
Ela: Ela.
Me: What's your favorite color?
Ela: [indistinct]
Me: What do you do?
Ela: [pause] I do ... school.

Pain and Butt

Me: mommy, you are pain and butt, right?
Mommy: it is not nice to say that.
Me: but daddy says I am pain and butt...
Mommy: sigh

Hide-and-Seek

Dad, let's play hide-and-seek. I'll hide under the blankets, and you
try to find me.

Mommy and daddy

Me: Mommy is "mommy" and daddy is "daddy daddy poo poo head"
Dad: How about just "daddy"?
Me: How about just "poo poo head"?

Breakfast time

[Dad starts heading downstairs to get breakfast and I follow]
Dad: Oh, are you going to eat downstairs today?
Me: Yes, yesterday I ate in the TV room and was playing around
and didn't eat all that I should.
